Narrowed arteries greatly increase the risk of deadly blockage. According to their findings, smoking doubles your risk of a heart attack. To determine whether switching to vaping or e-cigarettes is better for your health than smoking, they studied the arteries of the 114 smokers once they made the switch.
The researchers closely documented the flow-mediation dilation. In layman’s terms, this means they studied the expansion of the blood vessels or arteries when blood passed through them. They found that healthy non-smokers had an average score of 7.7% while smokers had a score of 5.5%. When the smokers switched to vaping for a month, they had a score of 6.7% indicating a healthier flow-mediation dilation and reducing their risk of a heart attack.
